El Chalten is a small mountain village at the foot of Mt. Fitz Roy. The village was built in 1985 to secure the disputed border with Chile. On the way back we stopped at a hotel/restaurant that at one point had been a hiding place for Butch Cassidy.

Car wreck
Saw this old car wreck in the middle of nowhere. It was kind of eerie but I thought it made for a great shot.
Guanacos
Guanacos (similar to llamas) apparently can't jump too well as we saw several of them ( or their remains) on fences. We also saw a herd of them grazing.
Gauchos
We watches these gauchos (cowboys) expertly moving this herd of horses for some time. It was really cool seeing just these 2 guys move and control so many horses.
Calafate bush
This is the Calafate bush and it's berries. We have had a number of different foods with Calafate berries but picking them wild and eating them was amazing. They are quite delicious!
Route 40 Patagonia
We drove the famous Route 40 from El Calafate to El Chalten, about 200 kms each way. It is a spectacular drive with some amazing scenic sights of glacial lakes, rivers, mountains and desolate vast lands.
